For four decades, Graphic Design USA has sponsored national competitions that spotlight the most important, fast-growing and valuable areas of design for business and society. The newest of these is the American Web Design Awards. This annual competition celebrates the power of well-designed online to attract audiences, generate engagement and response, and promote products, services and ideas. The idea clearly resonates: This year, entries doubled from all around the country.

Of the hundreds of entries, 80 highly selective companies and organizations were named winners - among them, FELT Design Group, for felteverywhere.com.

Laura, Queen of Arts
This week we're welcoming Laura Ichikawa to the DeFord Designs team as our resident Production Guru. A native Californian (imagine that!), Laura holds a degree in Art from Cal State Long Beach and has more than 20 years of experience in the catalog and collateral production arenas. In other words, she knows her stuff. (Need a 400-page catalog to showcase 30,000 products? She won't even flinch.)

Laura is also an expert researcher, so we're considering a second job title: Google Queen. A third might be Queen of Snacks, if week 1 is any indication. How can someone so small eat so much and stay so small? New Google search: tape worm.

New Digs
It's a bigger and better space for DeFord Designs! We've moved into a larger space to accommodate new designers and provide a more comfortable environment for our clients to visit and enjoy. The new color scheme is warm and inviting and the new magnetic inspiration wall offers a place for staff and clients to express themselves (no porn please). We are settling in and looking forward to hosting an openhouse after the first of the year.
